Feeding Yourself With His Truths
How Do You Feel
There are days - when we just don't 'feel' the love of God; or when we just don't believe as strongly. As believers, it does not matter how we feel, what we see or don't see but what He has promised us. Today I heard a message that put this across strongly. Think about it - the days when you tell yourself 'God loves me'. Some days you genuinely feel it. Other days, you don't feel it as much. It makes you feel like Peter when the Lord ask Him, "Peter do you love me?" That we don't actually feel that way but we still say it. Does that make us hypocrites? A thousand times no! Today we know the Holy Spirit dwells in us. Today we know that we are redeemed by His blood. Today we know the truth - that the Lord loves us through & through. That it does not depend on how we feel.
Eternal Truth Over All!
But He wants more than that for us. He wants us to claim that victory ground. So how can we do that? We can tell ourselves everyday about the love of God. Whether we believe it or not, we still tell ourselves how much He loves us. It is not mind over matter. But it is truth over matter! We choose to feed our mind with the eternal truth! By soaking in the Word of God. By telling our souls His love and promises in our lives.
Be like David when He tells His soul the love of God in his life in Psalms 103:
"Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle's."
When you feed on the truths of God, you are choosing to dominate your mind with the good things of our Lord. When that happens, it will start to dominate every other facet of your life - your attitude towards work, your finances, your health and your family. You will start experiencing godly success in your life.
It Starts With What You Feed!
Every action in life starts with a thought. If you make someone watch violent movies day in, day out, he will be covered with violent images and one day, that thought will manifest into a violent act. That act started with a thought way back there.
Similarly - we feed, feed, feed on the Word of God!!! We surround ourselves with His images of success in our lives.
Teach your mind the truth. The amazing thing about the Lord is He gave us both a conscious and sub-conscious mind. That our conscious mind may be resting but our subconscious mind may still be at work. So if you feed your mind edifying truths and you go to bed telling the Holy Spirit to take over, the Holy Spirit will work in your subsconscious mind with those truths. Have your thoughts governed by the Lord and He will bring you from glory to glory, strength to strength!
In Times of Adversity
It's the same thing when you are faced with an adversity. How do you react to it? Do you simply become discouraged, distraught, stressed? Soak yourself with all the negative thoughts and feelings? You will lose out on the blessings of God brethens! You will miss the sweet smile that sister just gave to encourage you when you are so blinded by your negative thoughts. You will miss that helping hand that was extended to you. You will miss that caring phone call.
Or you can choose to think about how the Lord is in total control. Your sovereign God is taking over. Choose God's way. And He can transform those adversities to what He had in mind for you. His benefits for you will be able to shine through.
Remember truth over matter. It's a choice what you wish to feed your mind. Choose to feed on His love today.
